| Noted authorities in the field of
rehabilitation research have determined that the dimension from the finished floor to top seat should not
exceed 20-inches. A common misconception on specifications calls for a 20-inch height to rim of bowl...the proper height to bowl rim should be 18-inches for wheelchair water closet installations. When the correct height of 18" to the rim of the bowl is specified, it is possible to use standard Wade carrier-fittings for wheelchair closets to given positions in a battery of standard water closets. This 18" height and resultant 8 1/4" rough-in makes it possible to locate high-rough closets up to 7 fittings from the stack under normal conditions (1/8" pitch per foot, 30" to 36" between centers, 5 1/4" standard rough-in). Drawing above gives charted information for these normal conditions. Further support of the 18" rough-in is evidenced by the major fixture manufactures standard of floor mounted wheelchair bowls. When an 18" to rim of bowl dimension is evidenced by the major fixture manufactures standard of floor mounted wheelchain bowls. When an 18" to rim of bowl dimension is specified, the resulting rough-in to a siphon-jet fixture outlet will be 7" to 8 1/2", depending upon the fixture being used. In most cases, this dimension is 8 1/4" for siphon-jet closets. This chart should be used to determine placement of high-rough in line at proper rough-in of 8 1/4". A simple rule to follow is to rough-in wheelchair bowls 3" higher than standard bowls. This information refers to siphon-jet fixtures and carriers. |
