Synapse Wireless Receives Multiple Awards at 2015 Connected World Conference
February 27, 2015
Company Recognized for Internet of Things Lighting Innovations and Industry Leadership
Huntsville, Alabama (February 26, 2015) – Synapse Wireless, a leader in developing proven, scalable Internet of Things solutions based on their award-winning SNAP® wireless mesh technology, announced today that the company is the recipient of two Connected World awards as part of the Connected World Conference in Birmingham, Alabama. In addition, Kathryn Caspar, Vice President of Synapse’s intelligent lighting solutions group, was chosen as one of the 2015 Women of M2M.
The Connected World awards, in cooperation with the Connected World Conference, serve to recognize companies who successfully leveraged the Internet of Things (IoT) and connected devices to solve critical pain points within their businesses while achieving demonstrable results. The IoT is the next revolution in information technology fuelled as component parts of computers (wireless chips, sensors, memory, storage, CPU) continue to get smaller and cheaper, as Internet connectivity prices drop and coverage grows. It is increasingly possible to build connected computers into devices or ‘things,’ such as light fixtures, combustion engines, kitchen equipment, merchandise racks, electric meters, solar panels and more, transforming the way companies approach new business solutions.
In recognition of its innovative business solutions, Synapse, part of the McWane Inc., family of companies, received two Connected World awards through collaboration with McWane Ductile Ohio (formerly known as Clow Valve) and McWane Ductile New Jersey (formerly Atlantic States) to develop custom lighting installations that reduced energy consumption within each facility by at least 60%. The installations each included upgrades to LED lights which were integrated into a wireless network, using Synapse’s award-winning DIM-10. The DIM-10 enables automatic light configuration based on preset conditions which results in improved efficiencies, lower energy consumption, reduced operational costs, automatic alerts and daylight harvesting--all of which can be controlled from a remote location.
“The market opportunity to reduce energy consumption within commercial facilities is tremendous,” said Caspar, Vice President of Synapse Lighting. “The flexibility, scalability and ease of retrofit installation can pay for itself after just one year in a market, depending on electric rates. Wireless lighting control provides so many benefits – it makes financial sense to implement this technology wherever possible. Synapse lighting controls are unique because they can be applied across many different applications – both indoor and outdoor – to increase energy cost saving as well as provide increased flexibility with controls.”
In recognition of Kathryn Caspar’s industry and thought leadership, she was provided with a 2015 Women of M2M (Machine to Machine) award. This award serves to recognize women who demonstrate exemplary leadership and have accelerated the growth of connected technology while inspiring others in the industry. Caspar currently leads Synapse’s intelligent lighting solutions group, overseeing all sales, distribution channels and product development. She formerly worked with Cooper Industries (Eaton) where she served as the Director of Marketing and Product Management and oversaw new product development, marketing communications, and B2B sales initiatives with customers such as Sears and Amazon.com.
