Nighthawk Announces Release of RDG960 Mesh-Cellular Smart Grid Module for use in GE’s I-210 Meters
January 27, 2015
Nighthawk announced today the release of its RDG960 advanced communications and control technology. The RDG960 offers an extension of its already released RDM960/RDL960 products and has been developed to be utilized in GE’s I-210 meters.
Nighthawk’s Cellular-Mesh technology allows utilities to take advantage of public communication infrastructure, offering advanced solutions for their most challenging problems. The RDG960 will allow utilities to take advantage of Nighthawks versatile WebConnect software platform and RF solutions, taking advantage of a range of Smart Grid functions with just the click of the mouse.
With this new technology, utilities will have the ability to address challenging applications such as remote Connect/Disconnect, Time of Use, Tamper and Outage notification, off cycle reads and more. All of this can be done on a targeted basis with the click of a mouse. By focusing on addressing key challenges such as Outage management or meter turn off utilities can maximize the value of their investments. Nighthawk’s Mesh-Cellular solutions are available to electric and water utilities.
The versatile Nighthawk solution can be deployed on a targeted basis or system wide. With its advanced 2.4 GHz Mesh technology, utilities can manage their system with a limited number of cellular gateway points and talk to demand response points and other Mesh devices.
“We are extremely pleased to be working with GE and their I-210 meters. GE is a leading global provider of energy management products and a wonderful organization. Our primary goal is to develop a product that will be able to seamlessly work along with the meter offering the broadest and most competitive range of solutions for utilities nationwide.” said Charles Kitowski, CEO of Nighthawk Solutions.
The GE I-210 meters represent state of the art smart metering technology with feature rich design and an integral disconnect switch. They also offer demand, load profile, time-of-use and voltage measurement and are one of the most widely deployed smart meters in North America.
“GE’s I-210 residential smart meter is one of the most widely adopted in North America and we are committed to ensuring support for multiple Advanced Metering Infrastructure solutions to meet the needs of all utilities,” said Ed Myszka, General Manager/Meters in GE’s Digital Energy business.
Nighthawk’s mesh-cellular radio solution RDG960 series meters can be strategically installed anywhere in the utilities’ territory providing immediate advanced features without any infrastructure build out or maintenance. Nighthawk’s Mesh radio solution allows utilities to address either clusters of advanced meters or even a system wide deployment while lowering the cost of both the hardware and communications expenses.
