Clow Valve Shares Positive Health & Safety Culture with Anheuser Busch
December 18, 2014
On December 16, four representatives from Anheuser Busch (AB) visited the Clow Valve Metal Casting Facility to benchmark against their positive health and safety culture and team member engagement! This process started about 2 months ago when McWane Vice President of Health & Safety Barb Wisniewski was asked by an Anheuser Busch representative from their New York office if McWane would be willing to participate in a comprehensive on-line survey regarding our safety program. They were sending the survey to several dozen companies.
Based on the responses to this survey, they were going to select 4-5 companies they wanted to visit in person to verify and further discuss the safety programs. McWane was selected to be one of the on-site visits, and on December 16, the top four Health & Safety representatives from AB spent the entire day at Clow Valve (CV). They started the morning with a presentation by the VPP Committee, a safety orientation, facility tour, lunch, and then an afternoon of further discussions about our programs and processes.
The AB group was very impressed that Mark Willet (CV Assistant General Manager), Leon McCullough (Executive Vice President), Jim Wakefield (General Manager) and Dave Anderson (Plant Manager) spent the entire day with the group which demonstrates their true commitment to health and safety.
Individuals from AB who attended were:
German Leyva – Director Zone Logistics Safety from Mexico
Dale Pendleton – Senior Director North America from St. Louis
Josh Girard – Zone Logistics Safety North America from Merrimack, New Hampshire
Rick Ord - Rick Ord, Global Director of Safety, Tier 2/Sales/Support from New York City
After the visit, Barb Wisniewski congratulated the CV team saying, “I can’t thank all of you enough for such a successful benchmarking visit with Anheuser Busch yesterday. I could not have been any prouder of how well Clow Valve and McWane’s HS culture was portrayed due to your efforts not only yesterday, but for the years of work prior which has led to such a positive impact for all team members!! Each of the AB attendees iterated what a phenomenal turn-around McWane has made in the last 10+ years, and how grateful they were to be able to see this positive culture in action!! In fact, one departing comment was “how overwhelming – this has been a fantastic day for us. I can only hope we can reach this same level of culture at our facilities. So thank you, thank you, thank you. From the VPP committee members, to Executive Management, to other team members on the floor who acknowledged us during the tour – it could not have been a better reflection of who you are!”
