Can you imagine your life without a hand or an eye?
June 10, 2015
What would life be like if you had only one hand due to an accident or you lost an eye? These questions were answered for team members at the Clow Valve Machine Shop in an exercise scheduled during the McWane EHS/HR Awareness month. To emphasize how important it is to have the use of both hands, team members were asked to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and open bags of chips and bottles of milk using just one hand. They also tested their depth perception by playing, or attempting to play Jenga with one eye covered.
Everyone that attempted these activities walked away with a greater appreciation for their hands and eyes which was the real goal of this exercise. It is critical that team members stop and think before doing anything on the job that would risk them losing a hand or an eye. In other words, do it safely or not at all.
